Newest team takes big win

New addition to roster take down League Champs

The game couldn't have gone much better
- Mixed Captain, James Lloyd

The Mixed Team is the newest addition to Cheltenham's team roster this year and already the team are making a name for themselves as one to watch.

A few weekends ago they travelled to Warwick to take on a strong Nuneaton side. This season saw Nuneaton take the top spot in the West Midlands Mixed League and are a force to be reckoned with. Cheltenham went into the game looking for experience but came together as a team and pulled out a big win 8 -3.

Despite a stern warning from the refs about dangerous shooting, Cheltenham managed to secure themselves not 1... but 2 yellow cards from Rosie Bathurst and Gary Wood (the first of those within the first 2 mins of the game!) However player-down defence wasn't an issue for the team and the Defence stepped up and goalie James Humphreys made sure not to let any shots in.

Cheltenham's attack worked seamlessly together to create fantastic team goals as well as youngest player Eliza Keen driving beautifully from the right elbow to create opportunities for the side.

Defence was patient and disciplined shutting down Nuneaton's strongest players and creating turnovers at all chances. Both quarters 2 and 3 were a complete shutout with Humphries denying every shot that came his way.

Midfield hustled hard all over the field with a fair number of up and back sprints with the ball being turned over by Cheltenham defence everytime in the final quarter.

In the words of a very proud Captain, James Lloyd; 'The game couldn't have gone much better'

The Mixed team will continue to train over the summer and will be entering the South West Mixed League next season.

New players are VERY WELCOME - so please message us if you wish to join; no experience necessary.
