Last Thursday saw the Women's rules team take a big victory over a punchy Cirencester side in the South West Women's Invitational Cup Final.
A scorching 16 - 9 win saw the team lift the Cup for the FORTH year in a row - the only team to have ever won the cup since the competition started!
By securing the win, the Women's rules side have won both the League and the Cup for the THIRD year in a row - I'm sure something the other teams in the SW will be wanting to put a stop to next year!
Along with their Bath 8s victory in September - the team have lifted all THREE trophies for events they have entered for the THIRD straight year!
Invitational Cup Round up:
Cirencester came out punching and were in control of the game and up by one goal at the end of the first quarter, as the Cheltenham team slightly underestimated their opponents and let them get away from them on fast break goals.
By the end of the first half Cheltenham had stepped up the pressure and communication in defence as well as composure in attack and with the help of a first-half hattrick from Rosie Bathurst and goals from Erin Tufnell and Grace saw Cheltenham up by one at the half.
A rousing half time talk from captain Chloe Wilson, in her last game in the role, saw the 'Third Quarter Queens' come out and take over the game. Lydia Wood got herself a hat trick and Freya French got her first of the game.
Sarah Thomas and the defence had an electric 4th quarter denying Cirencester any chances and held them to a complete shut out. Down the other end of the field, the attack were having fun - Shelby and Erin getting their second of the game and Jenny with a textbook quick-stick low angle goal making sure that Cirencester had no chance of catching up.
A true team effort all round for the Cougars and showed just how hard the squad have been working over the season! Time for a rest now post-Nationals and the squad will be back and ready for summer training in no time!
