The Cheltenham Cougars secure their first victory against the RAC Marham lacrosse team with an 11-1 victory. The team featured a broad range of experience and ability, and was able to retain a good structure after the Christmas break.
The first half saw an opening goal from Mark ‘Stretch’ Armstrong, controlling the field with a fast passed offense. Cougars were able to win most of the face offs and gain possession early; creating more opportunity to break Marham’s defence and enviably score goals. Newcomer Josh and Cougar’s veteran David Lennox gave their all for the ground balls and fighting for possession of the ball, creating a heated and entertaining atmosphere.
Cougars defence was unmatched in tactics and aggression which put them into an early lead.
Marham had offered several tactical offensive approaches, making sure the ball was equally shared around the attacking players. They were able to stop the cutters from stealing any more than 1 goal. Once in possession, the Cougars pristine and well-rehearsed defence was able to use clearing to its maximum potential, and moved the ball into attack play at every opportunity.
The second half saw a more powerful display of skills from both teams. Cougars offered some huge checks that cut down the offensive plays of Marham. They offered several recovery runs most of which were shut down by Cougars midfield play. Even in the last of the 80 minutes, shots taken by veterans Nova and Extreme were vicious and powerful, and ended the match with heads held high. Marham had played well in their away match but were ultimately dominated by the powerful Cougars.
